Rolland Stanley Byford Korb (Bud)
April 20, 1933-February 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, on February 7, 2024, in his 91st year, with Gerald, Tina and Karen by his bedside at the Heather Nursing Home in Rawdon, Quebec.

Predeceased, by three weeks, by his dear wife of 70 years, Margaret Mary Korb (nee Jones), his mother, Caroline Byford Korb and his father, Harry Korb. Brother to John Korb (Lorraine). Father of Gerald (Tina), Brian (Lorraine), Karen, Michael (Evelyn) and Kelly (Steve). Dear Grampa to Michael, Jonathan (Lara), Natalie (Sam), Lindsay (Ian), Sair, Mackenzie (Kate), Bronwyn (Travis), Addison (Mariah), Kayla, Mitchell (Eléonor), Liam (Emilie), Aidan, Shane, Torrin (Sophie) and Brenna. Cherished Great-Grandmother to Abigail, Sasha, Lukas, Annabelle, Theo, Peyton, Madeline, Owen and Remi.

Bud grew up in the north end of Montreal. He loved and played all sports. In his younger days, he played in the Snowdon Fastball League and as a player for St. Augustine’s, they won the 1953 Championship in the Snowdon Fastball League. Some Montreal history for the Gazette. Bud worked for the Canadian National Railroad (CNR), and then Goodyear Tire until he opened his own printing business “Printing Craftsman.” Bud then went on to work in his own proprietorship under “Korb Production Services.”

Upon retirement, Bud joined the Rawdon Golf Club and was a mainstay at the Golf Club showing up daily and playing anywhere from two holes to twenty-seven holes. He and Mom enjoyed their time there.

Dad also enjoyed attending and participating at the Rawdon Legion and was close to his many friends from the Legion.

On February 2, 2024, Dad celebrated his 54th year of sobriety and was a beloved and great contributor to Alcoholics Anonymous wherein he sponsored and assisted many others to achieve sobriety.

Bud lit up every room that he entered. He was always full of joy, jokes and welcoming to all. His catch phrase was always “God Love You.”

Dad will be greatly missed by his family.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing caregivers of Rousseau Rawdon for their daily visits and assistance with all of Dad’s needs. You became part of our family and were a great support to Mom. Thank you also to the caregivers on the second floor of the Heather Nursing Home. Your kindness, compassion and gentle caring for Dad in his last weeks of life were so evident and appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation at White and Sons Funeral Home, 3555 Metcalfe, Rawdon, Quebec 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to your charity of choice.

Hearing this news makes me think of all the wonderful memories we made in Masonville. We can thank our parents for bringing us all together when we were just kids. I think of your dad whistling for all of you and how you would come running. Those days are filled with some of my best memories. We may have all wandered away but we never forget. My thoughts are with you and your families. Diane Hawthorne

Gerald, Tina and members of the family. Les Beauregard had their summer home on Willow St. in Masonville from 1986 to 1993, and were blessed by the kindness and generosity of Rolland Korb, his wife Margaret and family members they met during that period of time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Niquette Delage et Jacques Beauregard

Sending prayers and our deepest condolences to the Korb and extended family. We were so sorry to learn about the passing of both parents, within such a short span. I remember having good conversations with Margaret during family gatherings. I would have loved her as a mother-in-law. I also remember Bud's sense of humour, with a wink of an eye. May fond memories of Bud and Margaret bring you comfort. Edwina Lopes, Paul Holt and family

To the Korb family, So sorry to hear of the passing of both of your parents/grandparents in such a short period of time. They were always kind and friendly when met over the years in having the time to stop and say hello and have a pleasant chat. So many fond memories of our childhoods in Masonville at the beach, Pop In and elsewhere with the Korbs. Take care, Gerald, Brian, Karen, Michael and Kelly. I'll always remember and appreciate your parents kindness to me from childhood to now. They were great! Gary Nuttall

To the Korb family, so sorry to hear of the passing of both of your parents and grandparents in such a short period of time. They were such a mainstay in Masonville throughout the years and pleasure to meet and chat with in adulthood. Always friendly and nice to me from childhood to now and fondly remembered because of this. So many fond memories of the good old days of Masonville with the Korb family as well. Take care, Gerald, Brian, Karen, Michael and Kelly.

We were extremely saddened to hear the news of Bud's passing so soon after Margaret's death. We enjoyed many happy times in their company with our extended family, the Marfoglias, the Nuttalls, the Wortons and my mother, Annie Cameron, of Masonville. Regretfully, we are unable to make the journey from Ontario to attend the funerals but we send heartfelt sympathy to dear cousin Tina and her husband Gerald Korb and all the extended Korb family. What a wonderful legacy you have all been left by your parents, Bud and Margaret. They were such a lovely couple! Sincerely and with deep sympathy, Christine and Roger Emmett

My sincere condolences to all of the Korb family. What I loved best about Mr. Korb was his sense of humour and his kind and gentle manner. He was a soft-spoken man and I thought it was funny that he often called me Cook instead of Cookie. Masonville has now lost most of its elders from a bygone era when everyone knew each other and socialized together in the community. They are all now together again to continue that tradition for eternity. Cook (especially for you Mr. Korb).
