Verna Asbil-Negm

February 25, 1936 – April 17, 2021

Verna passed away peacefully at the Joliette Hospital on Saturday April 17th, 2021.

She will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by her brothers Walter (Mavis), Henry and sister- in-law Edith, many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. Hamed Negm, parents John and Violet Asbil, sister Caroline and brothers Angus, Elmer, Sidney and Robert and sisters- in-law Judy and Joyce.

Verna was generous, kind and fun to be around. She had a positive influence on the lives of so many people throughout her long career at the former Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, as a volunteer at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and in her service to church and community.   She had a big, warm personality and wonderful sense of humour and was interested in everything.  Her favourite times were spent with family and friends and when those times involved reminiscence, lively discussion, laughs and a good scotch, so much the better. Verna enriched our lives and her family and friends in Canada and Egypt are ever thankful for that. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the CHRDL Joliette.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions a private cremation was held and we will gather to celebrate Verna’s wonderful life at a later date when we can give her the fond farewell that she so richly deserves.

If you wish to make a donation in memory of Verna, please consider Christ Church Rawdon or a charity of your choice.

Dear Doug, Tom and Wendy, I am so very sorry that you lost your dear Auntie Verna. I am glad to have known your aunt a wee bit. She was full of life, fun, and a pleasure to be around. I remember taking part in her 65th (I think) birthday celebrations and seeing how much she was loved and cared for. I know she meant a mountain to you. I'm thinking of you during this very difficult and painful time. Love, Sandra
