Bill Canniff 1947 – 2022

Bill passed away at Lakeshore Hospital in Pierrefonds in the early hours of Monday, November 28th, 2022.

Bill was born in Montreal to Pamelia McKenna and William Henry Canniff. He lived with his parents and brother, Michael, in Montreal and spent time at the family home that Bill Sr. built on Lac Clair in Rawdon. Bill moved back to Lac Clair later in his life, before selling the property in 2021.

Bill graduated from Cardinal Newman High in 1964. He got his BA from Loyola University in Montreal. He went on to teach for the Montreal Catholic School Board, and in 1966 taught at St. Aloysius Elementary School. In 1969, he moved on to Harold Doran High School, where he taught secondary IV-V until 1979. He taught accounting, business math and commercial law. Bill was on the transition committee when Doran HS became Doran/Dunton HS, the first Catholic/Protestant school in the province. Bill left teaching in 1980 to pursue a career in sales for companies such as Alchem and Lawson Products.

Bill was married to Marilyn Taylor from April 1969 to September 1995. They had two children, Richard (1972) and Teresa (1974) and made their home in Saint-Bruno on the South Shore. Bill was an active coach for the various sports his son played. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Red Wings.

Bill married Francine Michaud on December 19th, 2003. Bill is survived by his wife Francine, his daughter Teresa (m. Tony), son Richard (m. Tina) and five grandchildren: Indiana, Sage and Cole (Teresa & Tony) and Victoria and Dean (Richard & Tina). He is survived by his brother, Michael Canniff (m. Josee).

Bill and Mike have been my best of cousins since the mid 1950s. Bill's passing has left me very sad. We shared many memories a few years ago, cherished conversations. I will hold onto the many shared memories over the commemorative weekend and beyond. My thought are with Bill's family members. Wishing you all love and peace. Rick
